LoanBook ("the app", "we", "us") helps you keep a personal record of money you have lent to or borrowed from other people, and the interest on it. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By creating an account and using LoanBook you agree to this policy.
These records are entered by you, for your own bookkeeping. They are visible only in your account.
If you choose to use the "import from phone" or auto-suggest feature, the app reads the names and phone numbers from your device's contacts only on your device and only to let you pick people to add. Contacts are not uploaded or stored unless you explicitly add a person to your account. You can deny the Contacts permission and still use the app by typing details manually.
If you allow it, the app collects your device's approximate location — your city or general area, accurate to roughly one kilometre. We request only the "approximate location" permission. The app never requests or records your precise or exact location, and it never collects location while it is closed or running in the background.
Your approximate location is read when you open the app and is sent to and stored on our server. Each reading replaces the previous one, so we keep only your most recent general area — not a history of your movements. We use it to verify accounts, to detect and prevent fraudulent or duplicate sign-ups, and to understand which regions to support better.
Who can see it: your approximate location is visible only to the LoanBook administration team. It is never shown to other LoanBook users, never shown to your contacts, and never shown to anyone you lend money to or borrow money from.
This is entirely optional. You can decline when the app asks, or turn the permission off at any time in your device settings, and every feature of the app keeps working exactly as before. If you decline, no location is collected or stored.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your data is stored on a secured server and transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information; however, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Your records are kept while your account is active so you can access your history. You can delete individual loans and people from within the app once they are settled. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below and we will process the request.
LoanBook is intended for adults managing their own finances and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
You may access, correct, or delete your information, and you may withdraw permissions (such as Contacts or Location) at any time in your device settings. Turning off the Location permission stops all further collection immediately; contact us if you also want the approximate location already on file erased. For any request, contact us.
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest version.
