MoneyBook — Privacy Policy

MoneyBook ("the app", "we", "us") helps you keep a personal record of money you have lent to or borrowed from other people, and the interest on it. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By creating an account and using MoneyBook you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information you provide

• Name — to identify your account.
• Mobile number — used as your login identifier.
• Email address — used to verify your account and to reset your password (one-time codes).
• Password — stored only in an encrypted (hashed) form; we never store or see your plain password.
• Preferred language.

Financial records you enter

• People you deal with (a name and, optionally, a mobile number and notes you add).
• Loan details you record: principal amounts, interest rate, dates, interest type, and payments.

These records are entered by you, for your own bookkeeping. They are visible only in your account.

Contacts (optional)

If you choose to use the "import from phone" or auto-suggest feature, the app reads the names and phone numbers from your device's contacts only on your device and only to let you pick people to add. Contacts are not uploaded or stored unless you explicitly add a person to your account. You can deny the Contacts permission and still use the app by typing details manually.

Technical information

• Network connection state, to tell you when you are offline.
• An authentication token kept on your device to keep you signed in.

2. How we use information

• To create and secure your account and keep you signed in.
• To verify your email and let you reset your password (via one-time codes sent by email).
• To store and calculate your loan records, balances, interest, and statements.
• To generate PDF statements/backups that you choose to download or share.
• To let you share a statement via WhatsApp, SMS, or other apps — only when you tap to do so.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

3. How information is shared

• Email delivery: verification and password-reset emails are sent through a standard email provider (Google / Gmail SMTP). Only your email address and the code are included.
• Sharing you initiate: when you tap "WhatsApp", "SMS", or "Share", the statement text or PDF is handed to the app you choose. That sharing is under your control.
• We do not otherwise share your personal or financial data with third parties, except where required by law.

4. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on a secured server and transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information; however, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your records are kept while your account is active so you can access your history. You can delete individual loans and people from within the app once they are settled. To request full deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below and we will process the request.

6. Children

MoneyBook is intended for adults managing their own finances and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Your rights

You may access, correct, or delete your information, and you may withdraw permissions (such as Contacts) at any time in your device settings. For any request, contact us.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest version.
